Our Nursery Room

As young children’s physical, social and developmental abilities flourish, they transition from the Toddlers Room to the Nursery Room. At this time a child’s curiosity is continuing to grow and to complement this, we have designed this room so that it is particularly inviting, interesting and stimulating.

At Langley Gorse Day Nursery, our Nursery Room helps to cater for children’s increasingly developing physical and communication skills. Children’s curiosity is at an all-time high at this age as they excitedly explore and investigate the world around them, seeking answers to the perpetual question, why?

Our team members encourage your child to try new things and motivate them to learn. We spend quality time with your child, both individually and in small groups, to support their continuously growing social skills. Our team will also take the time to help your child understand how to engage with others, with a focus on more challenging concepts such as sharing and taking turns.

Sensory, heuristic, physical and creative play are at the heart of the activities taking place within the Nursery Room, to support your child’s learning and development journey. Our approach to storytelling, songs and rhymes aims to teach your child numbers and letters as their speech and vocabulary advances.

Lots of exploratory play using messy materials, paints, crayons and pencils support children understanding that they have control over the marks that they make; a key pre skill for developing children’s writing.

Our Nursery Room has:

  • Age-appropriate books
  • Puppets
  • Natural materials
  • Small and large construction
  • Vehicles, animals and small world people
  • Play dough
  • Paint and art resources
  • A large physical play gym
  • Puzzles and games
  • Role play and dressing up materials
  • Sand and water play

Provision is made for sleep time if your child needs to rest during the day, however it is in the Nursery Room that children begin to grow out of their afternoon nap so we ensure that there is plenty for those not requiring one to do.

The Role of the Key Person

Your child will be assigned a Key Person whose role is to really get to know your child and support their individual needs. Every child is unique and whilst they will encourage your child’s growth and development, it is important that this is at each child’s own pace.

Building on developing skills from when your child was younger our Key People work with children to help them to continue their social and independent skills. This is often the age/ stage where children begin to become interested and ready to start toilet training. All of our rooms at the nursery have child sized toilets and access to potties too support children on this journey.
